Do you like canoeing? Swimming? Water Polo? What about baseball,
soccer, mini-olympics, archery, goofy talent shows, games, games, and
more games?
Fox hunts,
capture the flag, spy games, and the always much anticipated,
"super-challenging but I want to win so bad my sweet-tooth hurts"
TREASURE HUNT!
All this, while
learning what it takes to become a real leader: fortitude, service,
friendship, confidence, team-work...Faith. It's an incredible
experience that no camper has ever forgotten.
Each LEADERSHIP CAMP offers
a unique setting for personal growth in a fun-filled environment. Every
camp is based on an action-packed, well-organized program of lively
activities, good example, and the fostering of Christian values. More
than thirty years of experience has gone into shaping these camps.
The camps are sponsored by various centers
in the Midwest which are dedicated to the development of the personal
and intellectual qualities of young men. The spiritual activities of
these centers are entrusted to Opus Dei, a personal Prelature of the Catholic Church.
THE PROGRAM
|
The campers' busy day is divided into 3 parts. In the morning, the boys take part in classes
(such as Journalism, the American Civil War, Speech, and Rocketry)
geared toward fostering good habits and intellectual skills. After
lunch, campers participate in organized sporting competitions:
baseball, soccer, football, dodge-ball, etc., followed by a fun-filled
swim. After dinner, they take part in a class, free time, and more
games.

Daily Mass is part of the schedule for those who choose to participate. |
Special events add variety to the daily schedule: canoeing, archery, mini-olympics, and the ever-popular night games.
The daily
schedule also includes spiritual activites, such as Holy Mass and the
Holy Rosary, to foster Christian values among those who choose to take
part in these activities.

On their way to tent city... |
The camps are held at Cary Camp,
a Boy Scout Camp located 5 miles east of Lafayette, Indiana. Cary Camp
features 118 acres of hills and woods and is bordered by the Wildcat
Creek.
Camp
facilities include: dining hall, cabins, campgrounds, swimming pool,
sports fields, archery range, amphitheater, and picnic sites. Cary Camp
is an ideal place for canoeing, hiking, camping, fishing, and, as many
campers have delightedly discovered, wildlife (especially frogs!).

THE STAFF
|
Camp
counselors and staff have been carefully selected for their qualities
as role-models for the campers. They share the ideals of the LEADERSHIP CAMP and are dedicated to the personal growth and welfare of each camper.
The staff
includes several experienced adults, assisted by college students who
have often spent many years in the camp as campers, and later, as
junior counselors. They are helped by a team of high school counselors
who have been selected from among former campers. The camper-staff
ratio is 4 to 1. A priest of Opus Dei serves as chaplain.
